Last Post Before I Move

This is my last post before I move to Blowing Rock (near Boone) to Blackberry Cottage in the Woods.  I am excited about the move and would like the moving part to be over.  I am already tired and my back is killing me. It will be worth it in the end though.  I am already planning my spring garden and thinking about flowers.

As my move date moves closer though, the date my daughter reports for her deployment to Iraq is ever closer too.  She reports the 6th of Feb and will be gone for about a year.  I pray for her safety for what she will be doing and for all the soldiers in that whole area of the world.

My Last Week in TN

It is 6 days until I move to Blowing Rock NC (close to Boone NC).  My last weekend in Tn has been very strange.  It is very quite -- my daughter is out of town, my grandson is staying over at a friends so I am here by myself.  I did some sorting and packing, but I couldn't shake this sadness I had all day.  Finally as the evening rolled around I remembered my mother's birthday is Sunday.  She would have been 76 years old.  Once I remembered the date, I sorted through my memories of her and was at peace.  These are pics of her when she was young.  Yes, we are from Hazard, KY.

12 days and counting

It is 12 days until I move to my little cabin in the woods.  I am excited! One of things I collect are red and white crochet hot pads like these I found at a yard sale.

14 Days

It is 14 days until I move to my cabin in the woods.  I have all my utilities taken care of now.  I'm all set my for grand-daughter and husband to move my stuff from TN to NC.  I still have much to do.

This is an apron I found when shopping at the longest yard sale a couple of years ago.  I can just see it hanging from one of those tree branches in the kitchen.

16 days and counting

Only 16 more days until I move to my little cabin in the woods.  I am so excited and I have to say a little scary too.  I don't know anyone in Boone.  I'm sure it won't take me long to get in the grove of the area though.

Sale Sale Sale

Well it has been a while since I've written anything on my blog. Facebook seems to have taken over but there are somethings that Facebook just can't do. So I will be writing between them -- updates on Facebook and selling a few items I make on my blog.
I am closing the on-line store at http://beloved-creations.com/ on Dec 31. Until then everything left is 40% off.
Plus I am moving to a small cabin between Boone and Blowing Rock NC on Blackberry Mountain. I can't wait. I hope to write a few little stories or happenings from my new home.

Heirloom-it

I gave my grandson a football shaped bottle of Dr. Pepper and he said he was going to keep it forever. He said he was going to heirloom-it. It is was the first time I had heard that term. So I thought it was kind of cute and who knows what one person thinks is bound to be an heirloom is not what I think would be one.

All Things Quilted and Stitched

Please join us for shopping with a twist on Friday July 24, 2009 as we present "A STITCH IN TIME – ALL THINGS QUILTED AND STITCHED "

Hand-stitched quilts, detailed hand crafts and keepsake needle arts stitch us together in place and across time. Regardless of century, country or kin, we're unified by our love of all things handmade. Stacks of gorgeous quilting fabrics remind me of Saturdays spent with my grandmother, my eager little hands anxious to just touch the color fabrics tucked in every nook and cranny of the small sewing room. I'd watch her hands and as she worked her fabric like magic and turned floral pastels, ticking stripes and colorful plaids into prized treasures. Stitched treasures are beautiful as well as practical. Hand stitched sachets filled with the sweetest lavender - tucked inside a special drawer of an antique dresser or washstand. Whimsical quilts, using the newest techniques mixed with treasured old quilts tattered with age. Each one is beautiful in its own right, but the centuries combine to create something truly exquisite.

Embroidered table linens can become the finest heirlooms. Many have been passed down from mother to daughter or are looking for new homes to create new traditions. Today, machines can replicate those delicate stitches to create heirlooms for our own grandchildren. Pink flowers embroidered on vintage tablecloths, carefully scalloped edgings, delicate stitches on kitchen towels and napkins.

Needlepoints rescued and made anew with beautiful silks, each one with a story all its own, ready to make new memories in a new home. The finest yarns and threads woven, knitted, crocheted into practical and beautiful garments and accessories. A hand crocheted doily paired with silk ribbon flowers to cover a table, beautifully crocheted cushions to rest on a sofa. A handmade shawl whose stitches are eager to warm someone special on a cool summer evening. From past or present, near or far, we are united in our love of all things stitched.

Show and Tell Monday

Monday is the day my daughter Teresa reports to the Army. She joined the TN National Guard and is just now going to basic training. After boot camp she has 4 months of training too. So she will be gone for 6 months. Even though she hasn't been to basic she has had her monthly meetings with the guard and today I took a couple of pics of her in her uniform.

It's been several days since I posted a Product of the Day and I wanted to get back into the swing of things. Today's Product of the Day is in honor of a friend of mine who has cancer.

On my web site you can find both Pink Ribbon items and Red Dress items for sale and with each purchase a portion is donated to the cause it represents. So today item is this very pretty cosmetic bag set with a Pink Ribbon.

Pink Friday at Make Mine Pink

Please join us for shopping with a twist on Friday July 10, 2009 as we present "SUMMER PORCH AND GARDEN"

There’s nothing more inviting than a summer porch and garden. It can be a source of shade when the temperature gets too warm, a place of shelter during a gentle summer rain, or just a place to sit with someone special on a lazy summer day. It can be a welcoming start your day with your favorite antique tea cup in hand or a front row seat to watch the sunset from the weathered oak rocker, that in it’s day sat proudly in your grandmother’s home.
A welcoming porch and garden can create a friendly entryway to your home. A welcome sign hand painted with pink roses perched against the railing or a lilac berry wreath with a scent as inviting as it looks, letting guests know that you're glad they're here before you've said a word. If entertaining guests, perhaps vintage chairs, refinished and made comfortable with dainty floral needlepoint cushions, or a white painted table set with a vintage lace-tablecloth like your mom and before her - grandmother used.

With the right accessories, a porch and garden can even become an extension of your home. For candlelit evenings, a candle inside a topiary lantern casting a romantic glow. For lazy afternoons, a daisy metal basket filled with fresh cut flowers, a knitting project, or even as cliche as this sounds, a glass of fresh squeezed lemonade and a favorite books. Tucked in the corner, a vintage pink metal watering can kept handy to water the flowers in the window boxes while the lace curtains on the windows gently sway in the afternoon breeze. As much comfort as your home, with the right accessories.

You can add a cottage touch to your garden with decorations like ceramic garden mushrooms and inspiring garden plaques sprinkled with just the right amount of glitter. Tea cup bird feeders, handmade birdhouses, and antique iron birdbaths are all welcome sites for feathered friends. Remember to add a touch of whimsy just to make you smile - like a basket of flowers placed on a pink bicycle.

No matter what your summer days hold, a porch and garden can provide the ideal setting for friends, family and even a private retreat. Won’t you join me for a cup of tea as we help you design your summer porch and garden.

Green Fairy Quilts

Check out this blog. She made this amazing quilt and will raffle it to raise money to feed the homeless in Romania. She is also having a give-away on her blog but I am really moved by her charity.

Just finished the scarf

I just finished crocheting this scarf. It is made of bamboo, wool, and angora yarn. I love how soft it is and how easy the yarn was to work with. The green and plum look so good together too. This is the first of many more of these scarfs -- so stay tuned.
