Public Speaking -- Story Telling

Once Upon A Time -- One of my great loves is story telling. We have traced our family through Scotland, Ireland, to the Appalachian Mountains and with 5 generations still living there is no lack of tales to be told. I weave the tales of history, family, fabels, and my own thoughts to make an exceptional story telling event.

Types of stories:

  • Battles of Scotland
    Ancient Irish History
    Appalachian Mountains
    Historical Family
    Recent Family
    Bible Women -- one-women-interpretation
    Ghost Walks

Other Types of Speeches:

  • Brain Injury -- I also speak on the affects of brain injury and have spoken at the Virginia General Assembly Budget Hearing, the Newport News City Council, Age and Abilities Expo, EasT Virginia Medical School and many other events.
  • Mentorship -- the importance and how to set up a mentorship program. I have been a mentor in Toastmasters for years and in other situations in the workplace.
  • Mental Fexability -- How to change the way you react and think about what goes on around you.

I live in Newport News, Virginia, between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. I travel from the Nags Head area to Elizabeth City NC, Virginia Beach to the Washington DC area to Charlottesville on to Roanoke to tell my tales.

I have been a member of Toastmasters International since 2000. I have given over 50 speeches within Toastmasters, over 100 outside of Toastmasters. On July first I will be the Immediate Past President of the Oyster Point Speakers Club and the Area Governor of Area 12 in Virginia. Toastmasters is a public speaking and leadership club.

New Ways to Use Tea Towels and Guest Towels

I have several tea towels and guest towels for sale in my http://belovedcreations.etsy.com
shop. So how else could you use them if not for towels?

Well you could --

Cut them up and frame them
Make a pillow out of them (just fold over and sew)
Add some ribbon and make a chair back tie on -- purchase 4 for $50
Make small curtains from a matching set - purchase 2 for $25
Make quilt blocks out of them.

I'm sure there are many things I haven't even thought of. Don't see a design? I have thousands -- Just email me at janetinva@hotmail.com

Taking a Break

I'm taking a break from office work and machine embroidery today to do some hand embroidery. I started out learning hand embroidery before I was able to start my business and I still enjoy it. This kitchen towel sold before I could even finish. The matching one has some yellow spots on it that I'm not sure will come out when finished so I'm still going to finish it I'll do somthing else with it if the stains don't come out. I've had this set for years so I guess it is really not good to keep things too long in a storage box.

April Showers

It amazes me every time I stop and think about it. I have 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. How did this happen. I'm not old -- I'm only in my 50's. But yet I feel as though I am a patriarch of a dynasty of people. None of them depend on me, yet as a grandmother and great-grandmother I will shape their lives just by my exsistance. My mother has passed away but my grandmother is still living at the age of 92. That means she is at the top of 6 generations. I also knew my great-great grandmother and great-grandmother. The women in my family live long lives.

What do I want my future generations to know about me when they think of me. I only have to go as far as my grandmother to know I want them to know I am a strong woman. I worked hard, I over came everything that life threw at me. I love having my own small business. I always wanted to have a small farm with chickens, goats, lambs, and vegetables. That even with a disability I was a person who wanted to make my way in life.

Beloved Creations In The News

I was very fortunate to receive a Bernina Artista 730e sewing machine through the Virginia Department of Rehabilatitive Services to start my own sewing business. The Denbigh House of Newport News, a work day setting for individuals with brain injuries, featured my business in their newsletter. I have since made sports shirts with The Denbigh House logo on them.

April Showers

I live in East Virginia near Williamsburg and the flowering trees are in bloom at their peak. Other flowers are starting to bloom and tulips are breaking ground. I have dusted my little patio and put the plants out to make a homey little spot to relax in. I am ready for Spring! In honor of Spring I have embroidered these two sets of Irish Linen with pink lacy designs. You can find them on ebay userid beloved-creations.
