Making Way for the New at Make Mine Pink

The year 2009 promises to be full of fun and exciting themes for your shopping pleasure. Won't you join us each Friday as Make Mine Pink presents Shopping with a Twist?
Don’t you just love the first week of January? All the holiday trimmings are stored away, the gifts are in use or proudly displayed, our houses are freshly cleaned and organized, and all the proper pillows are back on the sofa.
But wait—there is something, just a little something, nagging at us. Yes, time for a quick change here or there. Maybe new pillows will make that sofa more inviting, a new rug to give the room a quick pick-me-up, some different everyday dishes would perk up the kitchen, or the fresh sent of a new potpourri will welcome us home each day. Well, that is it... the wonder of the New Year—we see everything anew.
The Boutiques at Make Mine Pink are experiencing the same thing. We love everything we offer in our boutiques (our merchandise is gorgeous), but it is time for us to straighten up the shelves a bit, look at everything with new eyes, and refresh our stock. So, we are celebrating this Pink Friday with a special “Making Way for the New” shopping event. Don’t be fooled by our fabulous sales, this is not old, dusty, unwanted stock. It is our usual, beautiful and unique merchandise! We just need it to go to a new home so that we can stock our shelves with new and even more exciting merchandise for the new year.
Don’t miss this once a year event! Friday, January 9th at Make Mine Pink!

How would I fix the car crisis
First of all I don't often get on a soap box, but every now and then I just feel I have too. The auto industry bridge loans begs me to speak out.
Why give the car manufactures the money when the cars on the lots are not selling. What -- are they going to continue to make cars that sit in lots somewhere? No -- the automakers have not shown they can run a profitable business. Also the dealers can't afford to get new cars when they can't sell what is on their lots.
I say give the 35 billion dollars to the tax payers in the form of grants.
If you gave a 18 thousand grant to individuals to purchase a new car -- not a luxury car but a good mid range car the government could buy almost 2 million cars. This would help the local dealers and give the parts, dealers, and the auto makers a new place to start.
Who would get the 2 million cars
1. People on disability based on ability to drive -- current car must be older than 5 years old
2. Single working mothers (have custody of their children) who we know make less the men do
3. Single working fathers (have custody of their children) because they don't receive as much child support because women don't make as much as men do
4. Working families
This is my opion but seems to me a better solution that what is being proposed.

Gas Prices how low will they go
Right now in Clarksville TN, you can buy gas for $1.36. This is amazing since it was over $4 just 3 months ago. Will it dip below a $1? That would be nice. What do you think?

Pink Friday at Make Mine Pink
Please join us this Friday November 28th for the last in a series of very special PINK FRIDAYS at Make Mine Pink. Christmas at Make Mine Pink.
While Christmas shopping usually starts early in November for me, The day after Thanksgiving is really the defining moment. I, just like so many others, pour over the sale flyers in the special edition of our local paper in search of great products at great prices. Per tradition, after Thanksgiving dinner, the men settle in to watch TV, while the women pour through the sales flyers and plan their shopping strategy.
This year I plan to do all of my day after Thanksgiving shopping, on-line. I'll snuggle up with a warm down thrown and a cup of coffee and from the comfort of my own home, start my Christmas shopping in earnest.
One of the very first places I plan to start shopping is right here at Make Mine Pink. Sure, it's Pink Friday, and I just love the recommendations from the the Boutique owners, but this week we also have a very special surprise for you!

Christmas comes to Make Mine Pink
Please join us this Friday for the very first in a series of very special PINK FRIDAYS at Make Mine Pink. Christmas at Make Mine Pink begins November 21st!
It happened every year~ right after Thanksgiving dinner. The men would go into the living and laugh and tell stories, and that is where the women wanted them. As the women cleared away the food and washed a dried the fine china and crystal, the discussion began. As children we listened, and waited for the big reveal.
Happy Holidays!

My Review of Pretty in Pink Beaded 3-Light Bowl Pendant Chandelier
Originally submitted at Lamps Plus

This pendant light has a soft and romantic look. It's also a look you can alter as you wish, as it comes with two pleated fabric bands and two beaded strands that let you create you own look. The fabric bands come in pink or white and fit behind the rose motif screen. Then choose from pink ...
Oh So Romantic Chandelier
Pros: Attractive Design
Best Uses: Primary Light Source
Describe Yourself: Budget Shopper
This chandelier would be wonderful in a romantic cottage or shabby decor home. I would also use it to decorate my office since I love to surround my self with creative and romantic items. This is the ultimate in romantic.

Annas Illuminaries & More
Oh my goodness! I received my candle and I loved it. It was very beautifully packaged and was in a very cute little cut glass candle holder. But the best part was the smell. I ordered the gingerbread. Well it smelled up my house with the most wonderful scent. I didn't have anything sweet to eat in the house so I got a can of biscuits laid them out on a baking dish, put sugar and Cinnamon on them and just before they got done I put a little pat of butter on them. My daughter and I ate all of them.
So this is a warning -- gingerbread candles may be hazardous to your diet.

Join Us at Make Mine Pink for Roses on Friday
I’ve never seen a rose I didn’t love. From the first blossom of spring, gently swaying in the breeze, to an intricately stitched needlepoint, rich in history, I love them all.
Roses represent so many wonderful things and are often used to celebrate special milestones such as weddings, births and anniversaries. Roses have also been used throughout the centuries in estate and cottage gardens, home décor and fashion. Milliners used silk roses to embellish the finest hats, while seamstresses stitches the richest brocade drapes adorned with roses. Throughout the years, famous artists have studied and painted every aspect of the rose. Antique lithographs and post cards from the 1800s grace our homes today with their everlasting beauty while roses continue to gracefully fit every lifestyle and décor. If you have a soft spot for roses, won’t you please join us for PINK FRIDAY at Make Mine Pink on Friday October 24th. The boutiques at Make Mine Pink are pleased to present “Coming up Roses.”

My Stroke of Insight
Today on Oprah.com a stroke survivor talked about her incredible journey to recovery. Her book is my featured "Book of the Week -- My Stroke of Insight by Jill Bolte Taylor"
As many of you know I suffered a mild brain injury in 2003. Most of the time you can not tell that I have any problems, but it is the totality of my day and long term problems that someone would notice. I have learned, the hard way, that almost no one cares or takes the time to understand the affects of what it takes to stay engaged in life and process all that goes on around us. Nothing is as clear as we would like when you suffer from a brain injury. We forget the easiest task but can often articulate the most complex idea. I also know that the brain can change and learn new ways of doing things but it is a life's journey.
I hope many will take the time to read this book -- and reach out to those around you that have suffered a stroke or other type of brain injury.

Oh My -- How many days until Christmas
My plan this year is to create gifts and items for sale that transcend Christmas. In other words, I am going back to my companies roots of "Today's Embroidery -- Tomorrow's Heirlooms." Look for new items and gifts that you can keep to pass down through your family and friends. Items such as hand and machine embroidered pillowcases, table scarves, handkerchiefs, monogrammed gifts, vintage linens, and many other personalized items.

I have finally settled
This has been one of my most difficult moves. First I couldn't make up my mind whether I wanted to move to Asheville, NC that I love or move to Clarksville, TN that I don't like as much. The tipping point was moving in with my daughter and grandson. We found a cute little house for rent in Clarksville and we have set about getting things moved in. We both have some furniture and things here and both have a storage unit each in Virginia. My daughter plans to empty her storage unit at Christmas and I will empty mine in March.
The second reason this move was hard was because of the death of my grandmother. In 3 years I lost my mother, long time boyfriend, and now my grandmother. I am OK but the grief process has to take it's course. I think it is the hardest things families go through many never do well at this time. Feelings get hurt, tempers flair and it is real easy to say and do things that you will regret. I pray that my family holds together during this time.
Third thing is I fell again. I can't believe it. I was sorting through some books and went to get up off the floor and my left leg collapsed and I fell on my right leg with the knee extended. I ended up in the emergency room the second day I was here. I was just so tired after making two round trip car trips to Eastern Kentucky that I didn't pay attention to my strength and got hurt. It is getting better.
Fourth and lastly is moving my business. My machine needs some work and I had to turn down some work at the same time I was moving my business. I had to take off my site many personalized items until the first of November when the machine will be up and running again.
I know it sounds like all was negative but it wasn't really. My grandson and I get along so well and so do my daughter and I. Every company we dealt with including the landlord, cable companies, etc have been super nice. My car insurance was cut dramatically and I still have my business.
Yes, it was a difficult move but I'm so glad to be here and back to posting.
