It's a Secret -- Mark Your Calender

My mother loved mysteries. She could read a stack of mystery books in no time. Is this a clue to Sept 10? Maybe. Here is a picture of my mother. She was so beautiful.

My first yoyo

They are called yoyo's. I'm not sure why except maybe because they are round? But anyway I made my first one today. I hope to make a lot more as they are easy to transport while you wait in lines or offices. What will I make with them? I was thinking just some small projects. Stay tuned as I figure it out.

Also my daughter in Tennessee bought me this John Deere Bank to save money for a farm. Too cute!! Love you Teresa!!

I have a needle and I'm not afraid to use it!

When I was in Tennessee visiting my daughter and grandchildren, my grandson Jon was pestering me about something while I was doing some hand embroidery. I told him "look I have a needle and I'm not afraid to use it" teasing him to leave me alone. He got me back when I was teaching my granddaughter to do a "salsa dance." I do have to say that I am not a skinny person and I am over 50 so when my daughter filmed it with her cell phone I did think it was funny especially when I tripped and almost fell. What I did not think was funny is when my grandson put it on u-tube. I don't know the address but I think it is under funny clips called Salsa Grannie. If you can find it, have a good laugh.

So I'm am getting back at him. Here is a pic of my grandson. Isn't he cute!!

New Children's Items

I
have hand embroidered two items for children. The first is a yellow duck with an umbrella to keep the rain away pillowcase. The pillowcase is standard size. You can find this item on my etsy store at http://belovedcreations.etsy.com/

The second item is a bonnet girl with the saying "Sugar and Spice" cotton piece. Use it as a base for a pillow, quilt, or wall hanging. It can be found at http://beloved-creations.com/ under Beloved Children.

New Quilt Blocks

I love these pretty pink quilt blocks. These dresses all have a different fill pattern. The blocks are 15x15 white bleached muslin with polyester thread. See my web site at http://beloved-creations.com/ for other blocks

Quilt would look wonderful as a wall hanging or in a young girls room.

Time to go home

I have been in Tennessee almost a month now and tomorrow I will travel back to my home in Newport News Virginia. I really like it here in Tennessee though; the hummidity is lower and I feel so much better, there are rolling hills, lots of farm land, my daughter is here and my aunts, uncles, and g.ma are near. I will miss it all very much.

Sunday my daughter, me, my neice, and my grandson went to Adams Tennessee to the Bell Witch Cave. Of course I fell I just about broke my foot. But the cave was very interesting. They family that owns the farm where the cave is located also have a replica of the house the John Bell and his family lived in. It was quite a story and lots of fun.

Here are some pictures.

New Quilt Block Patterns

I have finished a set 0f 10 of the red quilt blocks and have started the pink and grey set. Here is are pictures of the first two.

93 Years Young

I was in Krypton Kentucky (in Eastern Kentucky) this weekend to celebrate my grandmother's 93rd birthday. She is the most wonderful woman. She has been more than strong when she needed to be and kind when it was called for. I love her to death.

This picture was taken in my uncles summer kitchen. They have a log house he and his wife built themselves and they then built this summer kitchen. The second picture is of my daughter and niece and another view of the summer kitchen.

July Heat -- Hello from Tennessee

It is July and it's hot. I have such a hard time in the summer with the heat. Even if I stay indoors with the air conditioning I get asthma and I swell. (TMI -- I know too much info). I have found that here in Tennessee I don't feel as bad as I do in Virginia. Maybe because the humidity is worse in Virginia. But it is summer and I deal. How about you? How do you beat the heat?

My 4th was great -- here in Tennessee you can buy fireworks and shoot them off -- can't do that in Virginia so my daughter bought a bunch of fire works and we had our own show. It was so much fun.

Next week end my daughter and I are going to Kentucky to my grandmothers 93 birthday. She is only 4 hours from here. My grandmother is the most amazing woman and I love her to death.

I'll be in here in Tennessee for another couple of weeks then back to Virginia to prepare for two big craft shows.

I Dreaming of a Farm

It has been on my heart and mind for many years now that I wanted to buy a farm. I want to raise chickens, goats, sheep, and rabbits. I want to grow enough food to be self sufficient. This farm would be in the Tri-State area of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. I would like to have about 25 acres with some woods and a house set back from the road. I would still have my embroidery business and would sell things like cheese, goat milk, and vegetables to the local area.

It is a dream I want to see happen in the next year so I have decided to start my FARM Bank. In the jar will go all of my change. In a special bank savings account I will add money every week from my other bank accounts. Half of what I clear in the business will go into the FARM Account. So the Dream is on Paper now. I'll keep you posted on my steps to walking free.

Find Me Wearing The MMP Pin

I live in Newport News, VA. It is half way between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. During the MMP Diamond Contest many of us are wearing MMP Pins. Tomorrow (Which is Tuesday June 5 and Wed Jun 6) I will be visiting my favorite SB in town and visiting a shop or two in Warwick Point. If you see me wearing my pin you get an extra chance to win great prizes at MMP.

Coffee -- The only love money can buy

I have been addicted to SB Coffee for some time now and make no excuses for the portion of my budget that goes to support SB. But I have found something I like even better.

Make some coffee at home and put a small scoop of SB Coffee Ice Cream in it. Oh man it so good I just have to close my eyes to drink it. It's probably a good think SB does not sell their ice cream in their cafes or at least they don't in my area of Virginia.

Public Speaking -- Story Telling

Once Upon A Time -- One of my great loves is story telling. We have traced our family through Scotland, Ireland, to the Appalachian Mountains and with 5 generations still living there is no lack of tales to be told. I weave the tales of history, family, fabels, and my own thoughts to make an exceptional story telling event.

Types of stories:

  • Battles of Scotland
    Ancient Irish History
    Appalachian Mountains
    Historical Family
    Recent Family
    Bible Women -- one-women-interpretation
    Ghost Walks

Other Types of Speeches:

  • Brain Injury -- I also speak on the affects of brain injury and have spoken at the Virginia General Assembly Budget Hearing, the Newport News City Council, Age and Abilities Expo, EasT Virginia Medical School and many other events.
  • Mentorship -- the importance and how to set up a mentorship program. I have been a mentor in Toastmasters for years and in other situations in the workplace.
  • Mental Fexability -- How to change the way you react and think about what goes on around you.

I live in Newport News, Virginia, between Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. I travel from the Nags Head area to Elizabeth City NC, Virginia Beach to the Washington DC area to Charlottesville on to Roanoke to tell my tales.
For information on available dates and price, please contact me at
janetinva@beloved-creations.com

I have been a member of Toastmasters International since 2000. I have given over 50 speeches within Toastmasters, over 100 outside of Toastmasters. On July first I will be the Immediate Past President of the Oyster Point Speakers Club and the Area Governor of Area 12 in Virginia. Toastmasters is a public speaking and leadership club.

New Ways to Use Tea Towels and Guest Towels

I have several tea towels and guest towels for sale in my http://belovedcreations.etsy.com
shop. So how else could you use them if not for towels?

Well you could --

Cut them up and frame them
Make a pillow out of them (just fold over and sew)
Add some ribbon and make a chair back tie on -- purchase 4 for $50
Make small curtains from a matching set - purchase 2 for $25
Make quilt blocks out of them.

I'm sure there are many things I haven't even thought of. Don't see a design? I have thousands -- Just email me at janetinva@hotmail.com

Taking a Break

I'm taking a break from office work and machine embroidery today to do some hand embroidery. I started out learning hand embroidery before I was able to start my business and I still enjoy it. This kitchen towel sold before I could even finish. The matching one has some yellow spots on it that I'm not sure will come out when finished so I'm still going to finish it I'll do somthing else with it if the stains don't come out. I've had this set for years so I guess it is really not good to keep things too long in a storage box.

April Showers

It amazes me every time I stop and think about it. I have 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. How did this happen. I'm not old -- I'm only in my 50's. But yet I feel as though I am a patriarch of a dynasty of people. None of them depend on me, yet as a grandmother and great-grandmother I will shape their lives just by my exsistance. My mother has passed away but my grandmother is still living at the age of 92. That means she is at the top of 6 generations. I also knew my great-great grandmother and great-grandmother. The women in my family live long lives.

What do I want my future generations to know about me when they think of me. I only have to go as far as my grandmother to know I want them to know I am a strong woman. I worked hard, I over came everything that life threw at me. I love having my own small business. I always wanted to have a small farm with chickens, goats, lambs, and vegetables. That even with a disability I was a person who wanted to make my way in life.

Beloved Creations In The News

I was very fortunate to receive a Bernina Artista 730e sewing machine through the Virginia Department of Rehabilatitive Services to start my own sewing business. The Denbigh House of Newport News, a work day setting for individuals with brain injuries, featured my business in their newsletter. I have since made sports shirts with The Denbigh House logo on them.

April Showers

I live in East Virginia near Williamsburg and the flowering trees are in bloom at their peak. Other flowers are starting to bloom and tulips are breaking ground. I have dusted my little patio and put the plants out to make a homey little spot to relax in. I am ready for Spring! In honor of Spring I have embroidered these two sets of Irish Linen with pink lacy designs. You can find them on ebay userid beloved-creations.
